Visiting Scholarship Program for Thai Citizens in USA, 2017

Fulbright Thailand (Thailand-United States Educational Foundation) is inviting applications for 2017 Fulbright U.S-ASEAN Visiting Scholarship Program. The program is available for Thai citizens to travel to the United States for scholarly and professional research for 3-4 months on priority issues to the U.S.-ASEAN relationship and ASEAN.
The objective of the Fulbright U.S.-ASEAN Visiting Scholar Initiative is to deepen people-to-people engagement and strengthen their educational ties. This marks the fifth year of the Initiative.
The Fulbright Program in Thailand was established in 1950 with the creation of the United States Educational Foundation in Thailand through a bilateral agreement between the governments of Thailand and the United States of America.
Course Level: Scholarships are available to undertake research programme.
Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded to pursue studies focused on a wide range of subjects including teaching English as a second language, maritime security, climate change, health, political security, and wildlife trafficking.
Scholarship Award: Fulbright U.S.–ASEAN Visiting Scholar awards will provide:
  • A monthly stipend for grantees, between US $2,710 and $3,145/month, depending on city.
  • A direct flight, round-trip economy-class air ticket.
  • A $1,250 Professional and Settling-in allowance.
  • Qualifying university lab and research fees up to $3,000, as necessary.
  • No dependent support will be available.
Scholarship can be taken in the USA
Eligibility: At the time of application, applicants must:
  • Be a Thai citizen in good health, age not exceeding 58 at the time of application deadline; (individuals holding U.S. immigrant visas or permanent U.S. resident cards (green cards), or dual (Thai and U.S.) citizenships are not eligible to apply);
  • Be physically present in Thailand at the time of interview and be residing in Thailand throughout the nomination and selection process and return to Thailand upon completion of the U.S. stay;
  • Hold a Master’s Degree or higher;
  • Be proficient in English.
  • Be highly motivated and experienced university faculty, foreign ministry and government officials or professionals in the private sector, think tanks and other NGOs whose work focuses on U.S.-ASEAN issues. Applicants will be expected to have a significant record of scholarly or professional accomplishment.
  • Be able to take leave from his/her home institution or post;
  • Be able to fully participate in every activity organized by Fulbright Thailand, e.g. Preliminary Orientation and Predeparture Orientation Program which will be held in February and June respectively;
  • Be willing and able to serve as a resource person and a cultural ambassador in the United States, e.g. as a lecturer, seminar participant, consultant, or in other capacities requested by the host institution or community;
Nationality: Thai citizens are eligible to apply for this scholarship programme.
College Admission Requirement
Entrance Requirement: Applicants must hold a master’s degree or higher.
Test Requirement: No
English Language Requirement: Students need to demonstrate that they have a good level of written and spoken English.
