The Embassy of Japan is seeking to fill a vacancy for an Advisor for Grassroots Grant Projects (GGP) at the Economic and Development Section.  Applicants should have English and Urdu proficiency, computer literacy, keen interest in rural development and willingness to work as a team.  Completion of at least a Bachelor’s degree, preferably a Master’s degree in a field relevant to economic and social development is required. Working experience either in project implementation, technical support to rural development related projects or implementation of M&E methods and practices is desired.

DETAILS:
Organization and Department Context 
The GGP (Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project) Program is an initiative of the Japanese government with the belief that in consideration of the enormity of the challenges being faced by the world today, development assistance should not only be limited to governments, but also be channelled to the grassroots level through Civil Society Organizations.  Since its beginning in 1989, the GGP program has supported 349 projects in Pakistan, with a contribution of more than 2.4 billion Japanese Yen.
 
Scope of Work
The Advisor will provide the following services at the Embassy of Japan under the supervision of the Head of Economic & Development Section and its designated officials.
  • shall examine and evaluate candidate projects and for this purpose advises applicants on improving candidate projects and then short listing good projects for consideration;
  • shall facilitate implementation as well as monitor/follow-up the progress of the approved/on-going projects;
  • shall maintain close contact and coordinate with NGOs, CBOs and any other organizations, in order to assist the organizations in developing projects for submission to the Embassy and to take follow-up actions according to the GGP’s policy; and
  • shall do field works such as investigations of the new project proposals and monitoring or follow-up survey to the project sites.

Experience and Competencies
  • Previous field consultancies related to project design and implementation will be valued.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet strict deadlines. 
  • Good organizational skills, as well as commitment to personal performance and self-development.
  • Good communication and facilitation/moderation skills
  • As a team performer, motivates team members and manages conflict effectively

Communication Skills
  • Full command of written and spoken English and Urdu
  • Knowledge of any other regional languages in Pakistan would be an asset
