New Zealand Pacific Scholarships

About

New Zealand Pacific Scholarships (NZPS) recognise the very close personal, cultural, and economic ties that New Zealand enjoys with Pacific countries. A particular focus of NZPS is to increase the number of young pacific people studying in New Zealand and to build a new generation of Pacific leadership with strong links to New Zealand.

NZPS are funded by the New Zealand Aid Programme, the New Zealand Government’s international aid and development programme. They are managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

NZPS are available for both undergraduate and postgraduate study in New Zealand.

Eligible countries 

Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau,Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu

Qualification Types

New Zealand Pacific Scholarships are available for the following qualifications:

• Undergraduate Degree (3 – 4 years)*
• Postgraduate Certificate (6 months)
• Postgraduate Diploma (1 year)
• Master’s Degree (1 – 2 years)
• PhD (3 – 4 years)

* Fijian Applicants: Please note that Bachelor of Veterinary Science is the only undergraduate qualification offered to citizens of Fiji.

New Zealand ASEAN Scholar Awards

About

The New Zealand ASEAN Scholarships (NZAS) recognise New Zealand’s close cultural, economic, and geographic ties with Southeast Asia. They seek to empower individuals with the knowledge, skills and qualifications to contribute to the economic, social, and political development of their region. NZAS are offered for postgraduate level study only.

Eligible countries

Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Viet Nam

Brunei Darrusalam and Singapore candidates can only apply for the Victoria University ASEAN Scholarship offered by Victoria University of Wellington (external link).

Qualification Types

• Postgraduate Diploma (1 year)
• Masters Degree (1 – 2 years)

New Zealand Regional Development Scholarships

About

New Zealand Regional Development Scholarships (NZRDS) are for Pacific Island candidates to gain knowledge and skills in specific subject areas that will assist in the development of their home country. Scholars undertake their study in the Pacific region, providing scholars with the option of studying closer to home in a Pacific environment and culture. 

The NZRDS programme complements the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s scholarships for training in New Zealand by:

• Enabling scholars to pursue programmes of study in fields where the option of studying in New Zealand is limited or not offered.
• Contributing to broader objectives including development of regional institutions and building strong person-to-person relationships across the region.

NZRDS are funded by the New Zealand Aid Programme, the New Zealand Government’s overseas aid and development programme. They are managed by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. New Zealand Development Scholarships 

About

New Zealand Development Scholarships (NZDS) give candidates from selected developing countries an opportunity to gain knowledge and skills through study in specific subject areas which will assist in the development of their home country.

NZDS are funded by the New Zealand Aid Programme, the New Zealand Government’s overseas aid and development programme. They are managed by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT).

NZDS are for postgraduate study in New Zealand and are available to candidates from specific African, Caribbean and Latin American countries, and from Bhutan, Jordan, Mongolia, Nepal and Timor-Leste. NZDS are also available for undergraduate study to candidates from Timor Leste.

New Zealand Commonwealth Scholarships

About

New Zealand Commonwealth Scholarships are prestigious scholarships that recognise New Zealand’s history and ties to the Commonwealth. Our Commonwealth Scholarships are part of the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) - an international programme under which Commonwealth countries offer scholarships and fellowships to citizens of other Commwealth states. The purpose of the scholarships is set out in the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (external link), with the following key principles to:

1. promote mutual cooperation and share educational experience among all Commonwealth countries
2. be available across the Commonwealth
3. recognise and promote the highest level of intellectual achievement.

How to apply

The application process for a New Zealand Commonwealth Scholarship is different to other New Zealand Scholarships. Applicants must submit their applications to their country's 'Nominating Agency' first. The Nominating Agency then 'nominates' two applicants from the submitted applications to send to the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Short Term Training Scholarships

About

Short Term Training Scholarships (STTS) are funded by the New Zealand Aid Programme, the New Zealand Government’s international aid and development programme. They are managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

STTS assist people in the work force to gain knowledge and skills that will help the development of their home country. They play an important and growing role in addressing the human resource and development needs of developing countries.

Through STTS, individuals from selected developing countries can undertake training of up to one year in duration in New Zealand. A wide range of short-term vocational and/or skills courses or work attachments are offered.

• Work placement (up to 12 months)

• Diploma (up to level 6 of the NZQF (external link) and up to 12 months)

Short Term Training Scholarships are available throughout the year. Contact your relevant New Zealand High Commission or New Zealand Embassy to submit an application.
