The Young Peacebuilders for Climate Action Program in Philippines--Fully-Funded

We will accept applications until May 26, 2017, Friday, 23:59 p.m. (ICT). Late or incomplete submissions will not be entertained.


The Young Peace-builders for Climate Action (YPCA) aims to strengthen the role of young people in promoting sustainable environmental development in peace-building and governance processes, enhance awareness and develop the potentials of young peace advocates as future leaders in community-based disaster risk reduction and management, climate change adaptation, and conflict prevention.


 Eligibility Criteria

The Young Peacebuilders for Climate Action is seeking thirty (30) youth leaders from conflict-affected and/or disaster-prone communities across the Southeast Asia. They will be selected based on their leadership qualities and track record, including volunteer activities, educational background, and community service experiences, among others. We are looking for individuals who will be able to demonstrate their potential to make a difference for and address the challenges confronting their communities. All applicants for the accelerator program must:  
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 25 at the time of the program;
  • Be able to demonstrate their commitment to peace-building, environmental protection, disaster management and/or social entrepreneurship;
  • Be currently a full-time undergraduate or graduate student; recent graduate of college, university, or other institutions of higher learning; or young professional who has recently joined the workforce;
  • Be a resident of conflict-affected and/or disaster-prone areas in Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

    1. Fill out Young Peacebuilders for Climate Action’s online application form  at this Google Forms link.
       Please note that the applicants may only submit one (1) application. Multiple applications will not be considered. Duplicate submissions may be grounds for disqualification. Please carefully review your application before submitting.
    2. Be a member of the  Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative by signing up on their website.

How can I apply?
Please fill in the application form here. After you have submitted your application, the project team will send a confirmation email to you. We will only review applications that have complied with the requirements so make sure you have also uploaded all of the documents needed.
Who can apply?
All Young Peacebuilders for Climate Action applicants must:
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 25 at the time of the program, although outstanding applicants may be considered if they meet all other eligibility criteria;
  • Be able to demonstrate their commitment to peace-building, environmental protection, disaster management, and/or social entrepreneurship;
  • Be currently a full-time undergraduate or graduate student; recent graduate of college, university, or other institutions of higher learning; or young professional who has recently joined the workforce;
  • Be a resident of the conflict-affected or disaster-prone areas in Southeast Asia, although outstanding applicants from other cities or provinces may be considered if they meet all other eligibility criteria.
I am a student younger than 18 years or older than 25 years. Am I still eligible to apply?
Exceptional applicants who do not meet the age requirement may still apply but those who meet all application requirements will be given priority. Participants are selected based on their track record, including leadership activities, educational background, and community service experiences.
Can I apply if I am not a resident of from conflict-affected or disaster-prone areas?
Applicants who reside in other places may still apply as long as their project ideas based on the application form have a potential to contribute in disaster-prone and conflict or post-conflict communities. However, those who live in such regions will be given priority in the selection process. Applicants from disadvantaged or underrepresented communities (e.g. belonging to an indigenous population) are definitely encouraged to apply!

My classes are still ongoing this July but I still want participate in the program. Will you organize another program?
Most of the program activities will happen on a weekend so we suggest that you check the academic requirements that you might miss on the remaining project dates and ask your professors if they will allow you to submit them before or after the program. We will also provide you with supporting letters and documents, in case you need them!
Fees, Lodging and Meals

Is there an application or participation fee for the program?
The application to and participation in the project is absolutely free!
How much should I pay for flight, accommodation and food during the program?
Flight, food, accommodation and other necessary material expenses are sponsored by the program! Participants, however, will be responsible for their transportation to and from the international airport in their country of residence. You might also want to bring some extra money should you decide to buy any interesting souvenir or personal items in the city!
